Richmond Residential Services, Inc. was founded as a non-profit in 1979 to help provide a better life for people with intellectual disabilities. Since then, we have specialized in support that adapts to the changing needs of those we serve.

Mission

Richmond Residential Services, Inc. strives to provide person-centered care for individuals with diverse abilities and support needs, facilitating choice, growth and community participation.

History

Richmond Residential Services, Inc. was established in 1979 by the Richmond Community Services Board as a groundbreaking first step towards supporting the residential needs of intellectually disabled adults in the Greater Richmond area. Since then, we have grown to become our own nonprofit with 18 programs, 140 full- and part-time staff members and over 100 clients. The development of a unique training and recruitment program has helped us attract a strongly committed team. At any given time, our Board of Directors consists of eight volunteers, all dedicated members of the community, from lawyers to special education teachers to our clients’ family members. As Richmond’s longest-running residential services provider, we consistently uphold the highest level of individualized care, allowing us to forge lasting relationships with community programs such as the Richmond Behavioral Health Authority and the Henrico and Hanover Community Services Boards. We are fortunate to work closely with a number of other private provider agencies who offer day support, behavioral consultation, or home health care.
