We provide person-centered care for individuals with diverse abilities and support needs, facilitating choice, growth and community participation.

It's true! Throughout the month, RRSI Supervisors It's true! Throughout the month, RRSI Supervisors submit employee names for on the spot recognition.

These employee names are then drawn by our Administrative Staff to win gift cards of varying amounts. At the beginning of each month our Administrative office staff gather together and draw names of employees who were submitted by their supervisors for recognition to win gift cards of varying amounts.

This fun, monthly tradition helps us recognize the DSP's who are going above and beyond their daily duties; While also incentivizing our Direct Support Professionals to not just fulfill their responsibilities but to do more than is asked of them by helping out when needed.

Join us throughout the week as we continue to share facts about our DSPs, stories of the work they've done, and behind the scene looks at how we are celebrating all of our Direct Support Professionals!

The Richmond Residential Weekly Recap is here! Ove The Richmond Residential Weekly Recap is here! Over the last two weeks we explored belonging. We discussed the importance of what it means to belong. We also spoke with those who make belonging possible at our Fisher Crest home. We shared the stories of those who found belonging at Richmond Residential's supported living program. We also shared the statistics on loneliness and employment in the disabled community. Continue to follow us while we continue to discover the importance of belonging. Next week is our Direct Support Professional celebration week and we can't wait to go in-depth on all the amazing things our DSP's do every single day. #Belonging #RichmondResidential #RichmondVA #RRSI
Richmond, Virginia has been an independent city fo Richmond, Virginia has been an independent city for over 155 years. With a city this old, it's pretty much expected that there are places that are not made accessible for people with disabilities. Since the Americans with Disabilities Act passed in 1990, all "public accommodations" meaning, any private business that provides goods or services to the public, must be accessible for people with disabilities. The laws in Virginia can prohibit disability accessible construction if the location holds historical significance. Many buildings in Richmond are considered historically significant and therefore do not have to be disability accessible by law. However, having buildings that are not accessible is one thing, what about public infrastructure that's inaccessible for people with disabilities? Richmond has many areas where sidewalks and other walkways are not compliant with the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) due to several factors. These non-compliant walkways prevent people who, for example, use wheelchairs, from navigating what should be, an otherwise accessible area. The Richmond that we strive for should be accessible for everyone, because everybody belongs in Richmond. #DisabilityAccessible #RichmondResidential #RichmondVA #AmericansWithDisabilitiesAct #Belonging
How Pierre found belonging: Pierre Whiting has li How Pierre found belonging:

Pierre Whiting has lived in his own apartment for over two years. Before moving into his own apartment, Pierre lived in a group home.

It was important for Pierre to live in his own apartment, become more independent and find belonging. It was also important for Pierre to continue living close to his work, as he has worked at Publix for over 10 years.

Richmond Residential made sure that all of his wants were met and also made sure that moving into his own apartment went as smoothly as possible.

Pierre enjoys being part of a community outside of RRSI, but he likes having his support from Richmond Residential.

Community outings, inviting friends over and taking vacations are just some of the ways Pierre finds belonging while living with Richmond Residential.

Thank you Pierre!

Imagine if you were surrounded by a room full of p Imagine if you were surrounded by a room full of people and did not feel a sense of connection.

For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities oftentimes support is needed when it comes to making meaningful connections.

Opportunities for friendships and relationships beyond family and paid support can sometimes be limited.

That is why inclusion is only part of the story.

What makes you feel like you belong?

You can live in a neighborhood and still not know You can live in a neighborhood and still not know your neighbors. You can be included and still feel invisible. You can be surrounded by people and still feel alone. For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, being in the community doesn't always mean belonging to it. Belonging is more than being present. It's being known. Being valued. Being connected. This September, we're exploring what it means to truly belong. What makes YOU feel like you belong? #Belonging #RRSI #DisabilityInclusion #CommunityInclusion
