Representative Payee FAQ

What is a Representative Payee?

A Representative Payee is someone appointed by the Social Security Administration to manage benefits for an individual who needs support handling their finances consistently and safely. At RRSI, this means more than paying bills. It’s about restoring stability, protecting housing, and ensuring financial peace of mind.

Who can receive Payee Services from RRSI?

Individuals receiving benefits such as SSI, SSDI, VA benefits, or Railroad Retirement may qualify. We also support individuals who are employed and need help managing their wages. Families, case managers, and community providers often make referrals to us.

What kinds of expenses do you manage?

We take care of essentials such as rent, utilities, groceries, and medical needs. We also help each person plan their personal spending and savings so they can thrive with greater independence.

If I already have a payee, can RRSI become my new payee?

Yes. With the proper documentation and approval from SSA, RRSI can be appointed as your new payee.

Group Home FAQ

What is a Group Home?

A Group Home is a warm, community-based residence where 4 to 5 adults live together, each with their own private bedroom. Individuals help shape their routines, meals, and décor, making the house truly feel like home. Our staff provide 24/7 support so every individual feels safe, connected, and valued.

What supports are provided?

Our staff assist with daily activities, meals, medication, transportation, and community involvement while always encouraging independence every step of the way.

How do families stay involved?

Families are welcome and encouraged to visit, share meals, and remain active partners in the support team.

Who is eligible to live in a Group Home?

Can individuals decorate their rooms?

Yes. Each person can decorate and furnish their room to reflect their personality and interests. Our DSPs are available to help every step of the way — from choosing a favorite wall color to measuring for the right bedroom furniture or hanging photos.

What is Supported Living?

Supported Living offers adults the chance to live in their own apartments with the support they need to succeed. It’s about independence with a safety net, creating space for choice, privacy, and personal expression.

Is staff on-site 24/7?

Staff are available and on-call at all times, with flexible support based on each person’s needs.

What if my needs change?

RRSI supports aging in place, so services can adjust as needs evolve from light support to more intensive assistance.

Can I choose how my apartment looks and my daily routine?

Yes. Supported Living is all about autonomy. You choose your décor, routines, and lifestyle, with staff there to assist when needed.

Who benefits most from Supported Living?

Respite FAQ

What is Respite Care?

Respite Care is short-term support that gives family caregivers time to rest and recharge while the individual enjoys a safe and engaging environment.

Who can use Respite?

Adults eligible through Medicaid Waivers may qualify. In some cases, limited self-pay respite is available.

How long can someone stay for respite?

Respite can be a few hours, a weekend, or several days depending on availability and scheduling.

Who provides respite care?

The same trained, familiar staff who work in our other programs provide respite care, ensuring consistency, trust, and peace of mind.

In-Home FAQ

What are In-Home Supports?

In-Home Supports bring our trained staff directly into a person’s home to assist with daily activities and help meet personal goals.

What services are included?

Services may include help with cooking, cleaning, personal care, transportation, and skill-building for independence.

Are services customized?

Yes. Each plan is person-centered, designed around the individual’s needs, preferences, and goals.

Who can receive In-Home Supports?

Adults who have disabilities and whose Waiver Service Plan includes in-home support.

How do I request In-Home services?

Start by contacting your Support Coordinator at the Community Services Board and requesting a referral to RRSI.

What positions are available at RRSI?

Our most common roles are Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and Case Managers, along with Program Supervisors and administrative positions.

Do I need experience to apply?
